Other sites you might enjoy

  • Our regular venue the Palace Theatre, Westcliff, has its own website.
  • Will's Will - my friend Jamie Godsafe has put me on to several techie sites that we now use to run the website. He also suggested this link, to Shakespeare's will at the UK Public Records Office.
  • Shakespeares' Globe is a website dedicated to the recreated theatre on the south bank of the Thames. There are plenty of interesting and relevant items, (neither all Globe nor exclusively Shakespeare) particularly in the magazine Around The Globe, which you can read on the site, or you can subscribe to it for £18 for six issues. (I've got a couple of recent issues if anyone nearby wants a sample).
  • Southend on Sea Arts Council website (the SSC is a member of the arts council).
  • Project Calliope - see below for the latest on former member Gary Cleaver's non-profit making arts project
  • Amdram UK - a list of UK amateur dramatics sites, plus all sorts of information and resources.

Early Shakespeare texts available on the Internet
The British Library has published readable images of the early quarto texts of 21 of Shakespeare's plays online.

The quartos, including Troilus and Cressida, Hamlet, King Lear, Love's Labour's Lost, Much Ado About Nothing - and The Two Noble Kinsmen - are thought to have been printed at the time the plays were staged, for the use of actors, directors, audiences and the playwright himself

The website allows you to read the scripts, and to compare them with several other versions, and offers a number of resources for Shakespeare students and background information for those interested in his life and work.

Click the further information link below to go and have a look.
